Ride description

RAIN is an annual ride across the State of Indiana sponsored by the Bloomington Bicycle Club. Its 160-mile length runs mostly on the Historic National Route 40, an older divided four-lane road with light traffic. It has gentle rolling hills. You should be able to average at least 12 to 14 mph for over 11 hours.
2009 Ride
Riders MUST wear helmets and must obey all Indiana traffic laws. This includes stopping at all stop signs and red lights. You must finish your ride by 9:00 pm (dark) to be an official finisher of RAIN. This is a maximum of a 14-hour ride. Rider numbers will be provided. Here are some press reports of the 2009 RAIN:

Ride to RAIN (the Ultra Route) - RAINSTORM

RainstormMark your calendars! From July 12-17, challenge yourself with five century rides over five days. On day six, join 1,000 other bicyclists on the Ride Across INdiana (RAIN) to ride from Terre Haute back to your original starting point in Richmond. That's why we call this ride RAINSTORM: Ride Across INdiana--Same Thing, Only Ride More.

Visit http://triri.org/storm.html for more information.

Training tips

Read these articles from the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association for guidelines on how to prepare for RAIN.

Participating in organized long distance cycling events, such as the June Touring Ride In Rural Indiana (TRIRI), is a great way to prepare for the RAIN ride.
